Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire: And Other Papers on the Second Law of Thermodynamics
"Reflections on the Motive Power of Fire," along with other papers in this volume, laid the foundation of modern thermodynamics. Highly readable, "Reflections" contains no arguments that depend on calculus, consisting mostly of statements couched in exact language. The title essay examines the relation between heat and the work done by heat in high- and low-pressure steam engines, air-engines, and an internal combustion machine. This English translation includes selections from Carnot's posthumous manuscripts and a paper by Rudolf Clausius that rewrote Carnot's results in a terminology that distinguished between change of entropy and quantity of heat. 1890 ed.

Clausius-Mossotti relation - The Clausius-Mossotti equation is named after the Italian physicist Ottaviano-Fabrizio Mossotti, whose 1850 book analyzed the relationship between the dielectric constants of two different media, and the German physicist Rudolf Clausius, who gave the formula explicitly in his 1879 book in the context not of dielectric constants but of indices of refraction. The same formula also arises in the context of conductivity, in which it is known as Maxwell's formula.

Rudolf Ritter von Alt - Rudolf Ritter von Alt (born 28 August 1812 in Vienna; died 12 March 1905 in Vienna) was an Austrian landscape and architectural painter. He was also known as Rudolf von Alt or Rudolf Alt.

Rudolf I, Duke of Bavaria - Rudolf I of Bavaria (October 4 1274, Basle–August 12 1319), (German: Rudolf I , Herzog von Bayern, Pfalzgraf bei Rhein), since 1294 Duke of Bavaria and Count Palatinate. Rudolf was the son of Louis II, Duke of Upper Bavaria, and Mechthild, a daughter of King Rudolph I.
